NEW NATIONAL MANGERS FOR THE NRA'S COMPETITIVE SHOOTING DIVISION
National Manager - Pistol Programs Eight-time NRA National Outdoor Pistol Champion Brian Zins accepted the position of national manager of pistol programs for NRA and assumed his duties at headquarters on Mar. 31. Conventional pistol and action pistol programs will be his primary focus, but he will also be initiating new pistol programs for NRA. Zins can be contacted by phone at 703-267-1451, or by e-mail at bzins@nrahq.org.
National Manager - High Power Rifle Programs Janet Tomsyn Raab started shooting high power rifle in 1986 and became Distinguished with the M14 rifle in 1987. She is the first, and only, female high power rifle competitor to win the coveted Nathan Hale Trophy as high civilian in the National Trophy Individual Match at Camp Perry. Her credentials in high power rifle are impeccable, having set national match course and long range national records, and winning many national high power trophies. Raab's latest shooting accomplishments consist of setting a world record in the women's 300 meter prone team event, and gaining her U.S. International Distinguished Badge in 2006. She can be reached by calling 703-267-1479, or by e-mail at jraab@nrahq.org.
Updated Awards Schedules For The NRA National Rifle & Pistol Championships At Camp Perry The 2008 national championship winners will see the initiation of a new awards schedule. The awards for the national championship grand aggregates - matches #100, #200, #300, #400 and #500 - have been increased substantially. Each national champion, and second and third place individuals in each championship will receive a firearm and $500, $300 and $200 respectively. All special award winners who previously received 35 award points will not receive $50, and all first place national championship class and category winners will receive $100, up from 15 award points. The cash awards that are outlined above will not be award points; in their place will be Visa Gift Cards, usable like cash anywhere a Visa card is accepted. This is the beginning of a complete phase-out of award points for national rifle and pistol championship awards.
NRA has now committed to spend $200,000 in awards for the Camp Perry championships, up from $180,000 in 2007. NRA is capable of making these changes thanks to the generosity of those individuals and corporations that have donated to the NRA Competitive Shooting and National Championship Endowment. Competitors can expect to see many more changes in the championships and competitive shooting programs as this endowment continues to grow. We owe a great depth of gratitude to NRA President John Sigler for his vision and commitment to competitors and competitive shooting programs. President Sigler created the NRA Competitive Shooting and National Championship Endowment as his first act as NRA President.
