NRA Targets
NRA club officers and match directors: Please remember that any sanctioned NRA match, either Approved or Registered must be shot on targets that have the Official Competitions NRA logo (below). The scores are invalid if the targets no not bear this mark. To look-up specific NRA Target manufacturers, see www.nrahq.compete/licensed.asp. and as always, you can call the NRA Competitive Shooting Division for information at (887) NRA-MATCH.

Updates on Target Rule Changes
Per amended smallbore rifle rule 7.5, the A-36 target has been replaced with the NRA/USAS 50 target. This target is used for 50-foot indoor metric position matches. This change became effective Jan. 1, 2010.

High power rule 4.7 was amended to accept a two-piece Long Range (LR) target. NRA is developing an official LR target in two pieces with the dimensions of 72 inches tall by 64 inches wide. The new rule states "any hits outside the 7 ring that still strike the intended 72x72 target face (backer) shall be scored as a 6." The new NRA target should be much easier to handle than the current four-piece LR target.

A more detailed discussion of the 2010 rule changes will be in next month's issue of Shooting Sports USA.

Friends of NRA State Grants
An excellent avenue for obtaining funds for your shooting club, activity or range is through the State Friends of NRA Grant Program. Fifty percent of all net income from local banquets is combined into a state grant fund, regulated by selected local Friends of NRA volunteers who sit on a state fund grant board. Applications are reviewed and money is allocated to eligible projects until all current state grant funds are expended

Your grant request can ask for firearms, ammunition, hearing protection, shooting accessories and almost anything that is shooting related. Although not as easy as obtaining shooting gear, shooting ranges can be funded for a variety of safety projects and range improvements.

Contact your local NRA Field Representative or go online to obtain grant forms and grand submission deadlines. Visit the Friends of NRA grant web page for more information at www.friendsofnra.org/National.aspx?cid=9.

Make it a point to mentor a new shooter this year.
