The NRA Competitive Shooting Division is pleased to announce the compilation of a commemorative history of the NRA National Rifle & Pistol Shooting Championships - the National Matches. This multivolume work will trace the 125-year history of the National Matches from its beginning at Creedmoor, New York, in 1873 to Sea Girt, New Jersey and other locations and finally to its current home at Camp Perry, Ohio.
This comprehensive history will chronicle the people who have made the National Matches a unique and compelling sporting event. Not only champions but also a variety of lesser-known competitors will have their stories told -- people whose lives have been influenced by their experiences at the National Matches. The reader will relive the matches, the personal triumphs and dramas, the humor and the camaraderie through historical B&W as well as full color photos and vivid narrative. The project will be produced by the same staff who published the immensely popular NRA All-Americans, A Commemorative History 1936-1998.
This extensive work will be complete only with the cooperation of competitors like you. Please complete this personal profile sheet, describing what matches you competed in, what equipment used, and any anecdotes you wish to share -- either about yourself or others. If you prefer to record just the highlights, we can interview you later to get the details. Also, we will need memorabilia (targets, medals, clothing, souvenirs) and equipment to photograph for the book. If you have anything that might be appropriate for us to use, please indicate it on the profile sheet and be as specific as possible. We will contact you about using the material. Please do not send us anything in advance.
We anticipate research and writing for this history will take several years in order to provide a thorough, accurate profile of the National Matches and the competitors who make the matches a hallmark event for the shooting community. From time to time we will provide updates on publication progress. We are excited about this monumental project and hope you will be, too. Thank you for you cooperation with completing our competitor profile sheet.
