Rules
NRA Rifle Silhouette Rules will apply, except where specific exceptions are made.
Guns
High Power:
- 6mm or larger, provided that no belted cartridges or Magnums are alowed
- Maximum weight 10lbs 2oz, including sights
- Magazines: No more than 5 rounds
- See rule 3.1
Open Air Rifle:
- Any air rifle weighing no more than 16lbs with scope and mounts
- See rule 3.3(c)
Smallbore Rifle:
- Only .22 short, long, or long rifle rimfire cartridges
- See rule 3.2
Sights
Use of scopes or iron sights, including diopter sights, are allowed.
Targets
Four types of targets:
- Gallina (chicken)
- Javelina (pig)
- Guajalote (turkey)
- Borrego (ram)
Steel thickness:
- High Power: 1/2" thick for gallinas and javelinas; and 3/8" thick for guajalotes and borregos.
- Smallbore Rifle: No less than 1/4" and no more than 1/2" thick for gallinas. Javelinas, guajalotes, and borregos should be 1/4" thick.
- Air Rifle: 1/8" thick.
Post 5 like animals in the same bank, all in a row facing the same direction, one target-width apart.
Shooters shoot one bank of targets, then continue to a new bank. Example: A shooter will shoot the bank of chickens, and then proceed to the bank of pigs.
Scoring
All scores are ranked either a hit (silhouette must fall over) or a miss. Targets that slide, turn, or rock, but do not fall, are misses.
Common symbols for scoring are X for hit, and O for miss.
Time Limits
Complete one bank of five targets in two and a half minutes.
Position
Any standing position without any artificial support.
Awards
Silhouette Rifle Qualification Patch. Blue/burgundy certificates. Medals, medal bars and skill rockers used in all courses. See qualification awards.
