The summer heat is here in full force, and so is recruiting. The Central Region has increased its member recruitment by 45% over last year’s numbers and many of you are looking to make this year a personal best. The Tulsa Gun Show is once again on top with another great performance at its last show. Second year recruiter Doyle Hallmark is showing strong in second place, as Lee Swank represents Missouri with a strong first half of the year. Jane Snapp has doubled her numbers from last year so far, and RK Shows is making a statement in the Top Ten with a solid showing. Many other great performances lie just below the Top Ten and I look forward to see how the rest of the year plays out.
“Remember November” is something to phrase to potential members, as reminding them what is at stake in the upcoming elections may provoke them to join. In recent months top recruiters and I have noticed more interest at the NRA table by prospective members. Having the right information on your table will help boost your membership recruitment numbers. Print out legislative updates from the ILA website that pertain to your area; make sure you show Second Amendment supporters what is happening. If they say “I will join sometime,” let them know that NOW IS THAT TIME.
When looking to increase your numbers over last year, don’t forget to look in areas you haven’t tried before. Not every event has to be a gun show to recruit members; a county fair, sporting event, church gathering or local trap shoot are all venues that might hold many possible members. Take a look at every event to create more opportunity in your recruiting numbers and always remind potential members to “Remember November.”

The Southeast is doing great in ’08! As a region, we’re up approximately 1,261 members over this time last year. That’s a 27% gain! And everyone is playing a part! Your hard work and dedication to help build a larger, stronger NRA is paying off! Dave Fitzmorris is, once again, holding the #1 Spot in our region and has recruited about 1,000 MORE members than he did this time last year! Dave, you are a Recruiting Machine!
Special congratulations to Mark Beck of Stuart, FL. Mark began recruiting in May 2007 and recruits at most of the Sport Show Specialists gun shows. Mark has not been with us long, but he has made his presence known, taking the #5 position in our region!
Would you like to see your name in the Top 10? If so, think about this: There are three types of people in the world: Those who make things happen. Those who watch things happen. And those who wonder “what happened?” At your shows, who are you? Are you a go-getter? Are you out there telling people the benefits of being a NRA member? Are you asking for the sale?
It’s about being Proactive, and actively pursuing those members versus being Reactive and hoping that someone will notice your “Join NRA Here” sign and come over. Keep in mind, if you don’t ask, then the answer is always No! Try stepping out of your comfort zone and taking the proactive approach, and you may just see your numbers grow and YOUR name in the Top 10!
With the elections right around the corner, take great pride in knowing that at the end of the day, you are one of the people who are making things happen!

Who is the best organization to preserve our gun rights? The NRA! We are the organization that can put a stop to the anti-gunners’ political agenda. Thanks to recruiters like you we are able to continuously strengthen our membership in preparation for November. Things are heating up with elections rights around the corner. Those who may not have felt the urge to sign up before are now feeling the looming threat to their firearm freedom, now more than ever! Sometimes all it takes to put that pen to paper is merely striking up a conversation with a passerby.
The Western Region as a whole is up 10%. I’d like to personally congratulate the Members Council of Alameda, which is up 500 members over last year first quarter. Roger Smith is up 270% and Rob Potter is up 88 members.
How does your table appear to the people passing? Steve Shear keeps NRA fact sheets displayed on his table. This enables Steve to keep multiple people occupied until he is able to speak with everyone. Steve is consistently in the Top Twenty in the Western Region.
Remind people that every membership makes a difference and that each will count in our fight to preserve our 2nd Amendment freedoms including junior memberships. The junior memberships can be a tough sell but the pay off is tremendous. It’s a great way to get the youth of America excited about hunting and shooting!
Let me say thank you to all of you whom I have had the privilege of working with so far, and I look forward to meeting many more of you throughout the year.

As the summer gears up, and November is fast approaching, we hope you are raring and ready to go! There are plenty of potential members out there that are just waiting for you to ask them to join. Make sure that you are ready with application books and other supplies on hand and SIGN THEM UP ON THE SPOT! The NRA is the most powerful defender of the 2nd Amendment – prospective members should want to be apart of this. Stress that NOW is the time for them to take action and stand up for their beloved firearm freedoms! Be visible and vocal at your shows. Initiate conversation with everyone who walks by and ask them to get on board with us.
With the elections knocking on our door, and the temperature starting to rise, we are confident that the membership numbers coming from the NE will rise right along with it.
Once again, Harry Jacobs continues to set the bar high maintaining the #1 Spot in the NE Region! Congratulations are also in order for Clyde Pritchard and Harry Kutzing. Clyde has increased his numbers by 22% over the last year, and Harry is close to tripling his 2007 year-to-date members. Keep up the great work and keep those numbers climbing!
As you are all aware, the position for the NE Marketing Representative is vacant, but you are not in this alone! Kyle, Becky and Shannon are happy to help you and would love to help answer any questions you may have. Just give us a call! Remember, we are all in this thing together and we want to help you increase your numbers! Let us know how we can help you.
