Gun Show News

NORTHEAST REGION

What a winter we have had! You all did not even let record snowfalls across the region slow down your recruiting! Even still, we are slightly down over last year's record breaking year. So let's buckle down, set up your schedule, and focus on beating the amazing numbers we put up in 2009.

Some of you have already exceeded your totals from last year; Allen Shireman, Jim Lyon and Paul Mattson are just three great examples. One of the things that got them here was that they all jumped at the opportunity to recruit at their local Cabela's store. These three found that this new recruiting venue helped boost their numbers on a weekend they didn't have a gun show planned. But just because you don't live close to a Cabela's, don't think you can't recruit at a new venue. There are many other "big box" retail stores in the Northeast, any of which would be a great opportunity for a motivated recruiter! If you have a place in mind, give me a call and we can work together to add new venues to your recruiting schedule.

Working with the promoters of gun shows and other events is going to be key to your success this year. By building a relationship with the coordinator of the event you are attending they will hopefully join you in your efforts to recruit, through better table location, free tables or even conducting a "Get in Free" promotion at the show.

The "Get in Free" promotion is a great opportunity for you to sign up more members. It has been a huge success everywhere it has been used, and I really want to see it in use more in the Northeast! Set a goal for yourself to get at least one of your shows this year turned into a "Get in Free" promotion. Remember, if you or the show promoter have any questions about the promotion I am always here, so feel free to give me a call.

Keep up the hard work and I know we will see success in the Northeastern Region this year!

It is with great anticipation and excitement that I inform you that I have taken a position as the Southeastern Marketing Representative with the National Rifle Association. I have been a member of the NRA for a number of years and am very much looking forward to working with you to help strengthen our Association.

Beginning in 2007, I became a recruiter with the NRA. I travelled to various gun shows and sport shows in Georgia in order to sign up members. I managed to achieve a "Top Ten" position for each of the three years that I recruited. During my time as a recruiter, I worked closely with Shannon McGarry, the previous Southeastern Marketing Representative, and ventured out of my comfort zone to utilize the NRA's "Get in Show Free" promotion. While I was somewhat hesitant about doing it at first, I quickly realized that my numbers were surpassing all goals I had set for myself. Just as Shannon helped me maximize my potential, I hope that my experience will help you maximize yours.

There is a brewing storm of anti-gun forces mapping out a plan of attack on the freedoms that we all hold so dear. The biggest and most effective buffer between the two is the NRA. In days as critical as these, one cannot ignore the value of any single member. Our organization is composed of many individuals who share a common goal: Freedom.

In the coming years, I will be at your disposal to help you recruit as many members as possible to preserve the freedoms that we hold so dear. Feel free to call me at (703)-267-3772 or e-mail me at wstinson@nrahq.org with any questions you may have.

Recruiting in the Central Region this year is still strong even after a record breaking 2009. More recruiters than ever are coming on board right now. These recruiters want to do their part to increase membership. This is a good indicator of how much passion for the Second Amendment resides in the Central Region. I want all of you to express this enthusiasm when you are out recruiting at your shows!

We need to make sure we incorporate two of the most important things when selling memberships. First, knowledge of all the benefits an NRA membership offers; this includes NRA programs and activities. Knowing the benefits and what the member will receive is important. It shows your dedication and knowledge of the service you are selling. Secondly, as mentioned before, show the enthusiasm you possess for what the NRA does. Help potential members understand how passionate you are about your rights and freedoms that the NRA helps protect and preserve, and encourage them to think about their own rights and freedoms. This brings your customers out of the idea of being sold something and into the state of mind that they are funding what they strongly believe. In knowing the benefits and showing your passion for the NRA, you will be more successful in your recruiting efforts.

I want to be sure to highlight a few great performances in the Central Region. Doyle Hallmark is looking to top his 2009 totals and break through the 4,000 member mark in 2010. Other top performances come from the NRA Weekend at Cabela's. The Central Region recruiters put up very impressive numbers. Gateway Civil Liberties Alliance topped 300 members in Hazelwood, MO while Mitchell Hunt travelled to the store in Fort Worth, TX and did an impressive 240 memberships! Damaso Torres and Clint Morris sold 150 memberships in San Antonio, TX while Linda Baxter sold 223 at the Wisconsin location. Glenn Stanfield sold an impressive 165 memberships in Minnesota! These are just a few of the great performances seen so far in the Central Region.

On a sad note, I regret to inform you of the passing of Frank Mercer. Frank was the Director of Gateway Civil Liberties Alliance. He was an executive officer of the ARPC and a member of the 67 Gun Club. He was a joy to work with and will be missed greatly by all of us here at NRA Recruiting.

In the past year we've seen explosive growth in the recruiter program. There has also been widespread growth in the audience who recognizes NRA. Many in this audience are curious and often ask questions about the NRA and what our mission is. As NRA members and recruiters, you are ambassadors for the Association. It's important that we show potential members what the NRA is all about: protecting our freedom and preserving our heritage. As such, it's very important to keep a positive attitude throughout the recruiting process. This may be their first with the NRA and we want to leave them with a positive impression - an impression that entices them to be a part of what makes our organization so strong.

Let new members know about recent gun laws NRA has helped fight or protect in your state. Point them to the NRA Website for information on youth programs, women's programs and firearm's training classes. Tap into what the member is passionate about and find out what makes them "tick." This will be key in gaining their support to this Association. By educating yourself, you will build the confidence needed to sell the NRA to potential members. If you are unfamiliar with the many programs of NRA, please look online or call me.

Part of being a good ambassador to the NRA entails exceptional customer service after the sale. For example, Dan Dewey and the Southern Arizona Field Support Team show dedication to this exceptional level of customer service by regularly checking their yellow copies with the commission statement to ensure that none of the memberships sold slip through the cracks.

I would also like to welcome Tara Madden on board the Recruiting team. Tara is the daughter of NRA recruiter, John Madden, and has been recruiting with John since she was a little girl. Now she has picked up recruiting on her own and has already turned in 20 memberships in her first week recruiting!
