ONLINE INSTRUCTOR TRAINING
Refuse to be a Victim® Online Instructor Development Workshop

To participate in this online course, you will need high speed internet access (no dial-up), Microsoft Word or Word Pro, an active email account, and a proficiency in saving, naming, and attaching documents to email.
Welcome to the National Rifle Association’s Refuse To Be A Victim® Online Instructor Development Workshop. Refuse To Be A Victim® is NRA’s award-winning personal safety and crime prevention program. This instructor development workshop will provide you with the training and credentials required to teach Refuse To Be A Victim® Seminars in your community. These sought-after seminars teach participants how to improve their personal safety strategies, and what techniques and tactics can be used to help avoid becoming easy victims of crime and criminals. In general, seminars heighten public awareness of what can and should be done to stay safe. The topics that are covered in a typical seminar include:

Eligibility Requirements
In order to receive Refuse To Be A Victim® Instructor credentials, candidates must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have a clear criminal record
- Successfully complete the online Instructor Development Workshop course
- Receive the endorsement of the Regional Counselor, your online professor
All requirements must be met in order to obtain and maintain NRA Refuse To Be A Victim® Instructor credentials.
Tuition
$250. No additional fees are required. Tuition includes the course fee, required student materials (which will be sent automatically, upon registration), and the first NRA instructor certification annual fee.
Note: NRA instructor certification fees must be renewed annually. The current renewal rate is $6 for NRA members and $11 for non-members. Rates are subject to change.
Student’s Time Commitment
The course requires approximately 12-14 hours to complete. Participants can work at their own pace, on their schedule, 24 hours a day; but the entire course must be completed within the allotted timeframe of two weeks (14 calendar days, including weekends). Access will be denied after the closing date and time. Registration will close when maximum class size is reached, but no later than two weeks prior to the beginning of the course to allow sufficient time to receive the required student materials.
Online Assistance
Throughout the course, a certified Refuse To Be A Victim® Regional Counselor will be your online professor to answer questions, assess completed assignments, grade your final exam, and provide personalized help and assistance. He (or she) will also recommend your appointment to the status of NRA-Certified Refuse To Be A Victim® Instructor, if you successfully complete the course.
About the Course
The course begins with a complete Refuse To Be A Victim® Seminar conducted by two experienced instructors. This seminar is presented as a model to show you what a professionally presented seminar should look like. Short quizzes for you to answer are built-in to each topic section. After viewing the seminar, you go on to:
- NRA policies and procedures
- Instructor guidelines
- Program goals, philosophies and administration, and
- Planning, promoting, conducting, and closing a seminar
During these lessons, special assignments will include:
- Planning a mock seminar
- Completing and submitting a grant application
- Exploring the NRA Program Materials Center
- Generating a business card and letterhead
- Writing a press release for local media
- Developing a seminar promotion plan
You may progress at your own pace, and repeat any lesson, but each lesson must be completed before advancing to the next. At the end of the course, an Instructor Candidate Quiz must be completed, along with an Instructor Agreement and Instructor Application Form.
