Rocky Mountain Elk Gunnison, Colorado October 15-22, 2009
Colorado is home to the largest Elk (Wapiti) herd in North America with an estimated 14,000 plus elk roaming the Gunnison Area. Prime habitat, deep rolling valleys and elevations from 8000-1400 feet provide this majestic animal its ultimate habitat to thrive. If your dream is to hunt elk in one of the most beautiful areas in North America, then look no further. Adventure Experiences will provide the expertise needed to assist you in reaching your quest.
Hunters will spend their first two days settling in and adjusting to the altitude to ensure they are well-acclimated before the hunt begins. They will also attend a safety orientation, to include sighting in their rifles, and to orient themselves to the outfitter and guides. Scouting trips are also on the agenda per each hunter’s preference. Otherwise, you may like to hike the area or just indulge in the wood-fire hot tub or Indian-style sauna (sweat lodge). Other amenities include shopping in nearby Gunnison or at the swanky Crested Butte Mountain Resort. Days three through seven are hunt days. Ladies will have the option to hunt all day or return for lunch and then head out again.
After hunting all day, you can satisfy your appetite with specially-prepared homemade meals. Breakfast is served at 4:00 am on hunt days and 8:00 am on non-hunting days, lunch is at 12:30 pm and dinner is served at 7:45 pm. The ambiance of wood burning stoves and soft illuminated lighting will welcome you after a long day’s hunt.
The hunting cabin is comfortably furnished with two bedrooms and a loft. One bedroom has a queen-sized bed, the second has one set of bunk beds, and the loft has six single beds. The cabin is equipped with one indoor bathroom with a shower.
Cost Details: $3680.00, which includes seven nights’ lodging, meals from lunch on Thursday, October 15 to breakfast on Tuesday, October 22; five days of bull or cow elk hunting; field dressing and cleaning; 2-1 hunter-to-guide ratio; and transportation to and from Gunnison Airport.
Registration deadline: September 1, 2009. Limit 12.
