The Women On Target® Postal Matches are conducted annually, January 1 through December 27. The match is open to all female shooters, regardless of age, but each shooter may only enter once per calendar year. Membership in the NRA is not required but is encouraged. Click here for the postal match conditions, rules, and more information.
A postal match is an exciting and easy way to participate in national competition, but on an informal basis. You – and maybe a friend or two – shoot the specified course of fire at your home or local range, and mail (hence, the name postal) your score results to the NRA. NRA then ranks all the participants’ scores across the country and distributes awards based on the number of participants that enter each match.
We have annual Women On Target® postal matches for all of your favorite firearms – pistol (rimfire match, centerfire match), rifle (smallbore match, highpower match), and shotgun (trap match, skeet match, sporting clays/5-stand match). Participate in one discipline, two, or all three!
Ladies – come join us for the 2009 Women On Target® Postal Matches!
The first and second-place shooters in the inaugural Women On Target® National Postal Matches were honored with a beautiful prism trophy. All participants were recognized with certificates and pins celebrating this great year-long event.
Congratulations to all ladies who participated in the 2008 National Rifle Association Women On Target® National Postal Matches!
“I first learned about the Women on Target® postal matches at the NRA annual convention last year in Louisville. I picked up a brochure on the postal matches. Even though the year was half over, I decided to participate in both the pistol and rifle matches.
“I like the postal matches because I can work on them when it is convenient to me, and I’m competing with women across the country. I definitely plan to participate again next year and improve on this year’s scores. I hope to encourage other women who shoot at my range to participate as well.
“My picture is on the NRA web site as the first Women On Target Distinguished Expert in the country.” (Congratulations to Karen for recently earning a Double Distinguished rank, too!)

“The reason I decided to participate in the postal match was to see where I stood with other lady shooters around the country. I would like to see more ladies take part in this. It is very easy to register for the match and I could shoot at my leisure.
“I learned of the Postal Match on the NRA web site. And I would like to participate again. There are a lot of lady shooters out there. We just need to find them.
“I'll make sure my granddaughters see it.”

“In July 2008, I was given the opportunity to attend the NRA Women’s Wilderness Escape and had the best time of my life. There, I learned of the NRA Women On Target® National Postal Matches and thought, ‘Shooting is for me.’
“There is another side of me that loves wildlife and respects their place in our world. We live where there is an abundance of jackrabbits, cottontails, quail, dove, deer, etc. and we feed, water and do what we can to help them all.
“I would participate in any matches because shooting is in my future.”

“Shooting on your home range makes this match easier for everyone without the travel expense. I think that with more choices like air rifle events, prone matches or even silhouettes, this program could grow to be very popular among women. Freedom to keep and bear arms is important to us all, but to be able to participate in competitive shooting sports programs like this is a privilege and honor.
“Thanks, NRA, for recognizing women and our importance in the world of shooting sports.”

“October 2008 was the first time I found out about the NRA Women On Target® postal matches. It couldn’t have come at a better time for me, because I was halfway into radiation treatment for oral and lymph cancer and needed something else to focus on.
“After seeing the final results for the postal matches on the NRA website, I now know that I’m not alone in my love for shooting. In fact, I’m even more encouraged than ever, and definitely plan to participate again in 2009, so girls … look out!
“I want to thank the NRA for hosting this women’s postal match. I am honored to have been one of the first to enjoy this competition format.”
